Subject:Yoga and regenerative sleep..
This is a continuation from my last posting (under Stories of Insight). I am not a Yoga expert and I don't practice Yoga, but after mastering regenerative sleep, one of my Indian friends explained to me, after showing him what I thought was a major discovery, that what I "re-discovered" by accident, was a very advanced form of Yoga, not practiced here in the U.S. I have to take his word for it, but to make a long story short, regenerative sleep regenerates the entire body, not just the mind. I kept a log of what happened to my body as I went through this regeneration, and looking back, it's nothing short of a miracle. I can tell you first hand that this method has to be taught, carefully. Please also note that this method is too dangerous for anyone who might suffer from a bleeding stroke (Intracerebral or Subarachnoid) or has high blood pressure, or is seriously overweight. I suspect age is also a factor, much better chance of regeneration if you are under 60, and you don't have to be sick to benefit from it.

Subject:letting go of my left brain chatter
I am currently listening to Dr. Jill's book on audio for the second time. I think it may have truly changed my life. I was at first amazed at how much she sounded like me. I also have a PhD (in developmental biology not neuro)and am very left brain dominant (close to same age as well). What I learned from her book after listening to it the first time was that "I had control over how I felt". I had a tendency toward getting into negative loops and would often have trouble letting go of thoughts that had a negative impact on me. After listening to her book the first time I started to try to "let go" of any feelings I had that I didn't want. If I got angry I would say to myself "Ok, I'm angry. Now just let go of that" And it worked!! Being the skeptic that I am I have tried it many times and am SO amazed it works! I have found that the stronger the emotion the more I have to analyze why I feel that way before I can let it go, but I CAN let it go. I believe I can go off anti-depressants because what I feel when I go into a "depressive episode" is that I am stuck in a negative spiral, that I can't get out of. BUt now I know I can get out of it. I had recently tried meditation before I listened to her book but had a lot of trouble keeping my left brain quiet. Now that I understand more about brain function I can see the purpose of meditation and have found I can now use it to go to sleep easier, without sleep aids like ambien or alcohol. I actually think I don't need to drink alcohol at all since I think that I drank alcohol not only for the taste (I love a good porter beer) but to numb the left side of my brain. I am now trying to examine many old habits and whether I can give them up now that I have this new power over my thoughts. Its hard to beleive that as smart as I am supposed to be, I never felt in control of how I felt, especially with regard to how I let other people make me feel. I just want to be able to say THANK YOU to Dr. Taylor for her desire to use her experience to help others. Just thinking about it brings up strong emotions (tears, increased heart rate and BP) but I can acknowldege those feelings and, ahh, let them go.
